Biomedical Engineering at the University of Galway is a world-leading research site in Biomechanics, Medical Devices, Mechanobiology, Biomaterials, Computational Modelling, and Tissue Engineering. We are focused on deriving a fundamental understanding of the biomechanics of biological cells and tissues, studying the mechanobiology of human disease, and developing innovative biomaterials and medical devices.  

Our research is funded by agencies such as the European Union Horizon Program, Research Ireland, and Enterprise Ireland. We also have significant direct industry funding from leading Multinationals and SMEs in the Medtech Industry. We have over 72 PhD students and 25 Postdoctoral researchers active in Biomedical Engineering.
